Overview

The rufous-collared kingfisher (Actenoides concretus) is a medium-sized bird species belonging to the family Alcedinidae. It is currently classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

  • Length of 22–25.5 cm (8.7-10.0 inches) with a weight of approximately 60-90 grams (2.1-3.2 ounces).
  • Mostly blue-green plumage above with yellow spots on the back.
  • Features a green crown and a black eye mask.
  • While some individuals possess a rufous breast band, others have rufous underparts overall.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland and montane forests. Its range encompasses Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand.
