Overview

The green-backed kingfisher (Actenoides monachus) is a species of bird in the family Alcedinidae that is endemic to Indonesia. It is currently classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

This species inhabits dense tropical moist lowland forests up to 900 m elevation. Its range is restricted to north and central Sulawesi, and the islands of Manadotua and Lembeh, where it is found in protected areas such as Lore Lindu, Bogani Nani Wartabone, and Tangkoko Batuangus.

Did you know?

The black-headed kingfisher was previously considered part of the green-backed kingfisher species but was elevated to its own species status in 2014.
