Overview

The silver-throated bushtit, or silver-throated tit (Aegithalos glaucogularis), is a passerine bird species found in the temperate forests of Central, East, and parts of North and Western China. Previously considered a subspecies of the long-tailed tit, it is now recognised as a distinct species due to its distinctive plumage and significant genetic differences.

Habitat

This species inhabits temperate forests, primarily along the middle and lower Yangtze and Yellow River basins. A small southwestern population extends into the Lancang valley in Yunnan within the Hengduan Mountains. It has two recognized subspecies: the nominate in the middle/lower Yangtze basin and the northern/subalpine subspecies in the Yellow River basin with extensions into western Liaoning, central Gansu, eastern Qinghai, western Sichuan, and Yunnan.
