Overview

The Somali short-toed lark (Alaudala somalica) is a small passerine bird belonging to the lark family. It is native to eastern and north-eastern Africa and is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical dry lowland grasslands. Its range covers east Ethiopia, various regions of Somalia, central and southern Kenya, and northern Tanzania.

The species was formerly sometimes treated as a subspecies of the Mediterranean short-toed lark, while the Athi short-toed lark was once classified as a subspecies of the Somali short-toed lark before being separated.
