Isabelline Bush-hen

Overview

The isabelline bush-hen, also known as Sulawesi waterhen, is a large, rufous and brown rail that represents the largest member of the genus Amaurornis. It is an Indonesian endemic species classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Up to 40 cm long with olive brown plumage and rufous underparts.
• Features a pale green bill and greenish brown legs.
• Produces a loud "tak-tak-tak-tak" call.

Habitat

This species is confined to the grasslands near water and lowlands of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is widespread throughout its natural habitat within this restricted range.
