Red-lored Amazon

Overview

The red-lored amazon (Amazona autumnalis) is a species of amazon parrot native to the tropical Americas. It ranges from eastern Mexico south to Ecuador, occurring in humid evergreen to semi-deciduous forests.

Identification

• Length of 32–35 cm with a weight of 310–480 g.
• Primarily green plumage with a blue crown.
• Red forehead and, in some subspecies, yellow cheeks sometimes with red spots.
• No difference in plumage between adult males and females.

Habitat

Found in humid evergreen to semi-deciduous forests up to 1,100 m altitude, with a range extending from eastern Mexico to Ecuador. The species is absent from the Pacific side of Central America north of Costa Rica.

Diet

Feeds on fruits, nuts, and seeds.
