Overview

The scarlet-bellied mountain tanager (Anisognathus igniventris) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• A lighter, more orangish belly compared to the scarlet-bellied mountain tanager (A. lunulatus).
• Distinguished from the fire-bellied mountain tanager (A. igniventris) by its specific range south from central Peru.

Habitat

This bird inhabits Andean forest, woodland, and shrub environments. Its range extends south from central Peru through Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.

The species is sometimes split into two distinct entities, with the fire-bellied mountain tanager (A. igniventris) ranging south from central Peru, separate from the northern population.
