Lacrimose Mountain Tanager

Overview

The lacrimose mountain tanager (Anisognathus lacrymosus) is a species of bird belonging to the family Thraupidae. It has 11 recognised subspecies, some of which are highly distinctive.

Identification

• Features a yellow patch below the eye that suggests tears, giving rise to its name.
• A. l. yariguierum is one of 11 subspecies, described scientifically only in 2010.

Habitat

This species inhabits Andean highland forest. Its range spans from Venezuela, through Colombia and Ecuador, to Peru.
