The bushy-crested hornbill (Anorrhinus galeritus) is a bird in the hornbill family found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand. It is currently classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests across a range that includes Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand.

Diet

The bird mainly consumes fruit, feeding on several species of figs as well as Indian Mast Tree, Oncosperma horridum, Canarium megalanthum, Canthiumera glabra, Zuccarinia macrophylla, Myristica sp., Horsfieldia sp., champak (Magnolia champaca), Dysoxylum sp., Fibraurea tinctoria, Endocomia macrocoma, and Alseodaphne falcata.

Did you know?

Females exhibit a unique nesting behaviour where they remain alone in a mud-covered tree hole during incubation while being fed by other hornbills from the outside.
