Streaked Spiderhunter

Overview

The streaked spiderhunter, Arachnothera magna, is a small bird belonging to the family Nectariniidae. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Similar in size to a sparrow with an olive-yellow plumage featuring multiple darker streaks.
• Underparts are pale yellow streaked with black.
• Possesses a long, curved black beak specially adapted for a nectar diet.
• Has yellow legs.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and montane forests. Its range extends from central Nepal through Northeast India and much of Indochina to the central Malay Peninsula and the Chinese provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi.

Diet

The streaked spiderhunter feeds on the nectar of flowers, such as the wild banana blossom.
