Overview

The frilled monarch (Arses telescopthalmus) is a species of bird in the family Monarchidae, currently restricted to the forests of New Guinea and nearby smaller islands. Some authorities consider the ochre-collared monarch and the frill-necked monarch as subspecies of this species, and it is also known by the alternate names Australian frilled monarch and frilled flycatcher.

Habitat

The range of the frilled monarch is restricted to forest on New Guinea and nearby smaller islands, including specific locations such as Batanta, Waigeo, Salawati, Misool, the Aru Islands, and various parts of New Guinea. Historically, its range may have included the territories of other members of the genus Arses.
