Red-capped Forest Warbler

Overview

The red-capped forest warbler, also known as the African tailorbird, is a songbird of the family Cisticolidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and is found in Mozambique and Tanzania.

Identification

• Artisornis metopias is a small bird averaging 10 cm in length with a mass of approximately 8.4 g.
• It features an olive-brown upper body and a rich chestnut-brown crown, ear-coverts, and sides of the neck.
• The underparts are whitish from the throat to the vent, with grey-washed flanks, while immature birds display a pale yellow wash on their undersides.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montane forests at altitudes ranging from 1600 to 2500 m. Its range includes northeast Tanzania and northwest Mozambique, as well as the Uluguru Mountains in east Tanzania.
