The piping hornbill, Bycanistes fistulator, is a black-and-white bird in the hornbill family. It is found in humid forests and second-growth areas across Central and West Africa. As the smallest member of its genus, it is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

  • Approximately 50 cm (20 in) in length, making it the smallest member of the genus Bycanistes.
  • Black-and-white plumage.

Habitat

This species inhabits humid forest and second-growth vegetation. Its range extends from Senegal eastward to Uganda and southward to Angola.
