Solomons Corella

Overview

The Solomons corella (Cacatua ducorpsii), also known as the Solomons cockatoo, is a small white cockatoo endemic to the Solomon Islands archipelago. It is a member of the cockatoo family and is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.

Identification

• Approximately 30 cm long, larger than the Tanimbar corella but smaller than the umbrella cockatoo.
• Predominantly white plumage with a pale bill.
• Features a blue eye ring and a recumbent crest that resembles a sail when raised.

Habitat

The species is abundant across most of the Solomon Islands, with the notable exception of Makira and its surrounding southern islands. It inhabits lowland rainforests, secondary forests, cleared areas, and gardens.

The bird's recumbent crest is unique in that it resembles a sail when raised. The species is also known by the alternative name Ducorps's cockatoo.
