The Mongolian short-toed lark, also known as Sykes's short-toed lark (Calandrella dukhunensis), is a species of lark in the family Alaudidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

  • Darker in colour and has a shorter bill than the greater short-toed lark

Habitat

The species breeds on the Tibetan Plateau, with a range that includes China and Mongolia, and winters mainly in peninsular India and southern Asia.

Recent analyses of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA demonstrated that it is more closely related to Hume's short-toed lark than to the morphologically similar greater short-toed lark, leading to its taxonomic split in 2016.
