Overview

The stripe-backed wren (Campylorhynchus nuchalis) is a bird found in the savannas of northern Colombia and central Venezuela. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

This species inhabits dry, riparian woodland, or farmlands, reaching altitudes of up to 800 m. Its range is restricted to the savannas of northern Colombia and central Venezuela.

The species exhibits a co-operative breeding system where groups of 2 to 10 adults share territory defence and nestling care, with non-breeding members often inheriting the breeding role from older siblings. This social structure has generated considerable scientific interest regarding kin selection and the evolution of queuing behaviour.
