Sinai Rosefinch

Overview

The Sinai rosefinch, Carpodacus synoicus, is a finch in the family Fringillidae found in the Sinai Peninsula and the Negev region of the Middle East. It is designated as the national bird of Jordan and is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Males have a pink face and breast with a whitish forehead and crown.
• Females are pale gray-brown overall with a whitish belly.

Habitat

This species inhabits hot deserts within the borders of Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Its range is restricted to the Sinai Peninsula and the Negev region of the Middle East.
