Overview

The Kalahari scrub robin (Cercotrichas paena), also known as the sandy scrub robin, is a bird species within the family Muscicapidae. Classified as Least Concern by the IUCN, this species is common across its range and is not considered threatened by human activities.

Habitat

Found in southern Angola, Botswana, Namibia, northern South Africa, and Zimbabwe, the species inhabits sandveld with low trees and scrub, woodland edges, and savanna. It also readily occupies human-altered environments such as old fields and gardens.

Did you know?

The female is responsible for constructing the nest, weaving it from shrubs and grasses in a process that takes around five days. She also disguises the nest from potential predators by removing and dropping eggshells away from the site after hatching.
