Orange-bellied Leafbird

Overview

The orange-bellied leafbird (Chloropsis hardwickii) is a bird native to the central and eastern Himalayas, Yunnan, and northern parts of Southeast Asia. The species is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and does not migrate.

Identification

• Brightly coloured plumage featuring an orange belly, green back, and blue tail and flight feathers.
• A distinct black and blue patch covers the throat and chest.
• Possesses a long, curved beak.

Habitat

Found in the central and eastern Himalayas, Yunnan, and northern parts of Southeast Asia. The greyish-crowned leafbird in Hainan is considered conspecific.

Diet

Feeds on insects, spiders, and nectar.
