Grass-green Tanager

Overview

The grass-green tanager is a small South American bird in the tanager family that is the sole member of its genus. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Body length of approximately 20 cm with a weight of 53 g.
• Perches almost horizontally on branches.
• Typically seen in pairs or small groups of three to six individuals.

Habitat

Inhabits subtropical and temperate forests in the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru. Occupies elevations ranging from 1500 to 3350 metres above sea level.

Diet

Feeds on fruits and insects. Forages predominantly in the upper half of short trees.
