Overview

The Arafura shrikethrush, or little shrikethrush (Colluricincla megarhyncha), is a passerine bird in the family Pachycephalidae. It is distributed across New Guinea and parts of north and east Australia. The species is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Its range includes New Guinea, northern Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and eastern Australia from Queensland down to New South Wales.

Specimens of this species have been found to contain traces of batrachotoxins, the same potent toxins found in the secretions of Central and South American poison dart frogs.
