Rüppell's Robin-Chat

Overview

Rüppell's robin-chat, or Cossypha semirufa, is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae native to the Afrotropics. Named after the German naturalist Eduard Rüppell, it is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Smaller than the White-browed robin-chat, measuring 18 cm in length.
• Features darker, blackish central tail feathers.
• Some races possess a more constricted supercilium behind the eye.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, including Juniper and Podocarpus forest, as well as moist shrubland and gardens. Its range covers Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, and Tanzania.
