Overview

The Himalayan cutia (Cutia nipalensis) is a bird species in the family Leiothrichidae, with its name derived from the Nepali word for these birds and Latin for 'from Nepal'. It is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN and was previously considered part of a monotypic genus before the Vietnamese cutia was split off.

Habitat

This species inhabits the Himalayan region from India to northern Thailand, with a subspecies also present in Peninsular Malaysia. It resides in tropical to subtropical humid montane forests, specifically broadleaf forests of oaks in the foothills up to 1,500 m above sea level, but rarely ascending above 2,500 m.
