Golden Babbler

Overview

The golden babbler is a small songbird within the family Timaliidae, currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List due to its wide distribution. This species is found across a broad geographical stretch, ranging from the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas to Southeast Asia.

Identification

• Olive-green wings contrast with bright yellow underparts.
• Crown and nape are golden-yellow, featuring narrow stripes.
• Small body size, measuring approximately 12 cm in length and weighing between 6 and 10 g.

Habitat

The golden babbler inhabits subtropical lowland and montane forests. Its range extends from the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas to Southeast Asia.

Did you know?

The species was originally described in 1844 by Edward Blyth under the name Stachyris chrysaea, but has been recognised as a member of the genus Cyanoderma since 2016.
