The crescent-chested babbler (Cyanoderma melanothorax) is a babbler species native to the Indonesian islands of Java and Bali. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

  • Ochreous-brown body with rufous-coloured wings and paler underparts.
  • A distinct black crescent marking across the breast.
  • Measures 13 cm (5.1 in) in length.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, montane forests, and shrublands. Its range is restricted to the Indonesian islands of Java and Bali.

The genus name Cyanoderma was proposed by Tommaso Salvadori in 1874 specifically for babblers characterised by slender and pointed beaks.
