Blue-throated Blue Flycatcher

Overview

The blue-throated blue flycatcher is a small passerine bird in the flycatcher family. It is distinguished from similar species by its distinctive throat colouration.

Identification

• Adult males feature blue throats and orange breasts with a well-defined white belly and flanks.
• Females possess an olive head and upperparts with a poorly defined creamy-orange chest and white belly.
• Resembles Cyornis tickelliae but is easily separated by the blue throat.

Habitat

The species inhabits thicker forest than other flycatcher species. Its range covers the Indian subcontinent, the Himalayas, the plains and Western Ghats of India during the cold months, extending eastwards into Bangladesh and to Arakan and the Tenasserim Hills in Myanmar.
