Malaysian Blue Flycatcher

Overview

The Malaysian blue flycatcher (Cyornis turcosus) is a Near Threatened species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. It is commonly known as 'Burung Sambar Biru' in Malaysia and is primarily threatened by habitat loss.

Identification

• Brilliant blue upperparts and head, lacking bold light or dark patches on the head.
• Pale, restricted orange on the throat and chest, contrasting with a white belly.
• Females are slightly paler with a whitish throat, while males have a blue throat.

Habitat

This lowland species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests across Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei. It is restricted to secluded riverine forests in Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula but occupies a variety of dry and wet forest types on Borneo.
