Overview

The fulvous-breasted woodpecker, Dendrocopos macei, is a species of bird in the family Picidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• A medium-sized, pied woodpecker with black upperparts heavily barred in white.
• The breast and belly are buff with light flank barring and slight side streaking, while the undertail is red.
• Males possess a red crown and an orange forehead, whereas females have a black crown.

Habitat

Found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, and Myanmar. Its natural habitats include subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.
