Overview

The diuca finch (Diuca diuca) is a bird in the tanager family Thraupidae and the only member of the genus Diuca. It is found across parts of South America, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, high-altitude shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest. Its range extends across Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay.

Did you know?

The species name derives from the Araucano words Diuca or Siuca, a reference that has persisted since its formal description by Chilean naturalist Juan Ignacio Molina in 1782.
