Pied Imperial Pigeon

Overview

The pied imperial pigeon (Ducula bicolor) is a relatively large, pied species of pigeon. It remains locally common across its range, leading BirdLife International and the IUCN to classify it as a species of Least Concern.

Identification

• Plain white thighs and undertail coverts, often with a dark spot at the very tip
• Narrowly dark-tipped bluish bill
• Relatively large body size

Habitat

Found in forests, woodlands, mangroves, plantations, and scrub across Southeast Asia, ranging from Myanmar and Thailand through Indonesia to the Philippines and the Bird's Head Peninsula of New Guinea. The species is mainly associated with small islands and coastal regions.
