Overview
The black-billed koel (Eudynamys melanorhynchus) is a species of cuckoo in the family Cuculidae that is endemic to the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi, Sula, Banggai, Togian, and other smaller nearby islands. Although the IUCN regards it as a synonym of E. orientalis, the International Ornithologists' Union recognises it as a valid distinct species.
Identification
- Bill: Possesses a black bill, distinguishing it from all other members of the common koel complex which have pale bills.
- Song: Voices a typical "koel!" call or a short series of rising and falling "woo" notes.
Habitat
This species is found in forest and woodland habitats on the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi, Sula, Banggai, Togian, and other smaller nearby islands.
