Little Greenbul

Overview

The little greenbul is a small passerine bird belonging to the bulbul family. It is distributed across various parts of sub-Saharan Africa and is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Reaches a total length of approximately 187 mm.
• Upper tail and wings are brown, while the breast and flanks are pale grey-greenish.
• Features a brown bill, brown iris, and light yellow-brown feet.

Habitat

Found in western, central, and eastern Africa, the species inhabits subtropical or tropical dry forests, moist lowland forests, and moist savannas. Five subspecies are recognized across this range, from Bioko and Zanzibar to regions spanning Gambia to southern Nigeria and southern Democratic Republic of Congo to northern Mozambique.

One subspecies, known as Hall's greenbul, is named after the British ornithologist Pat Hall and is only known from a single specimen collected in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
