Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher

Overview

The rufous-gorgeted flycatcher (Ficedula strophiata) is a bird species native to the Himalayas, Patkai ranges, and parts of southern China and Indochina. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Referred to by its distinctive reddish brown plumage.
• Features a distinctly colored patch on the throat, which gives the species its name.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, as well as temperate forest areas near boreal mountains in northern Kachin State, Myanmar. Its range extends across the Himalayas and Patkai regions, central and southern China, northern Indochina, and eastern Vietnam, with winters spent in places like Thailand, North Laos, and Vietnam.
