Overview

The kikau, also known as the western wattled honeyeater, is a species of bird in the honeyeater family Meliphagidae. It was formerly considered conspecific with the Fiji and Polynesian wattled honeyeaters but is now classified as distinct.

Habitat

Endemic to Fiji, this species is found on Viti Levu, Ovalau and the islands of the Yasawa Archipelago. Its natural habitats comprise tropical moist lowland forests, tropical mangrove forests and tropical moist montane forest.

Did you know?

The kikau was previously classified as conspecific with both the Fiji wattled honeyeater and the Polynesian wattled honeyeater before being recognised as a separate species.
