Sunda Laughingthrush

Overview

The Sunda laughingthrush (Garrulax palliatus) is a medium-sized bird species in the family Leiothrichidae. It is classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN Red List due to pressures such as hunting, logging, and trapping.

Identification

• Medium-sized body measuring approximately 24–25 cm in length.

Habitat

This species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland and montane forests, primarily within the range of Sumatra and Borneo across Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Subspecies are typically found in montane rain forests, with elevations ranging from 300 to 2,200 meters depending on the location.

Diet

The Sunda laughingthrush primarily consumes insects, including beetles, moths, and caterpillars, as well as seeds.
