Overview
The lavender waxbill (Glaucestrilda caerulescens) is a common estrildid finch native to Central Africa that has also been successfully introduced to Hawaiʻi. Its global extent of occurrence is estimated at 620,000 km², and it is classified by the IUCN as being of least concern.
Habitat
It inhabits subtropical and tropical lowland dry shrublands. Its range covers parts of Central Africa, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, and Togo, as well as the United States (Hawaiʻi island only).
