The yellow cardinal (Gubernatrix cristata) is a South American bird in the tanager family, Thraupidae, and is the only member of its genus. It is currently classified as endangered by the IUCN Red List, with a global population estimated between 1,000 and 2,000 individuals.

Habitat

This species is found in dry savanna, temperate shrubland, subtropical or tropical moist shrubland, and temperate grassland across Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It faces threats from habitat loss and the pet trade, with males being trapped at higher rates than females.
