Overview

The duetting giant honeyeater (Gymnomyza brunneirostris) is a species of bird in the family Meliphagidae, formerly known as the giant honeyeater. It was previously considered conspecific with the yellow-billed giant honeyeater but was recognised as a distinct species following a 2014 molecular phylogenetic study that highlighted significant differences in mitochondrial DNA, plumage, and behaviour.

Habitat

Endemic to Viti Levu in Fiji, this species inhabits subtropical or tropical moist lowland and montane forests. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, although it faces threats from habitat loss.
