Overview
The buff-vented bulbul, Iole crypta, is a songbird in the bulbul family, Pycnonotidae. It is currently threatened by habitat loss. Alternate names for the species include the crested olive bulbul, dull-brown bulbul and Finsch's olive bulbul.
Habitat
This species resides in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. Its range extends across south-eastern Myanmar, south-western Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and nearby islands.

Charlotte's bulbul was formerly considered to be the same species as the buff-vented bulbul until the International Ornithological Committee split them in 2017.
