Ethiopian Boubou

Overview

The Ethiopian boubou (Laniarius aethiopicus) is a species of bird in the family Malaconotidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and is found in East Africa.

Identification

• Breast and belly are pinkish.
• Narrow wing stripe extends across the median and larger wing coverts, often reaching the secondary remiges.
• Outer tail feathers never have white tips.

Habitat

This species is found in Eritrea, Ethiopia, northwest Somalia, and northern Kenya. Its natural habitat is moist savanna.

A quill mite, Neoaulonastus malaconotus, has been identified as an ectoparasite of the species. It belongs to the subfamily Syringophilinae, which is known to infect several bushshrike species.
