Yellow-bibbed Lory

Overview

The yellow-bibbed lory (Lorius chlorocercus) is a species of parrot in the family Psittaculidae. It is endemic to the Solomon Islands and is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Approximately 28 cm (11 in) in length, mostly red with black on top of the head and green wings.
• Features a yellow transverse band on the upper chest and crescent-shaped black patches on each side of the neck.
• Blue-green thighs and dark grey legs, with an orange-red beak and orange irises surrounded by dark grey eyerings.
• Blue feathers are visible under the wings.

Habitat

This species is endemic to the eastern or southern Solomon Islands, depending on the source, though the Wikipedia entry specifies the eastern region. Its natural habitats consist of subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
