Overview

The white-bellied redstart (Luscinia phaenicuroides) is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. It was formerly the only species in the genus Hodgsonius before being reclassified following a 2010 molecular study.

Habitat

This species inhabits temperate forests across Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

A large molecular phylogenetic study published in 2010 discovered that the white-bellied redstart forms part of a clade that includes the common nightingale, leading to its transfer from Hodgsonius to Luscinia.
