Overview

The zebra woodpecker (Meiglyptes tristis) is an endangered species of bird in the family Picidae, native exclusively to Java. Previously considered a subspecies of the buff-rumped woodpecker, it is now recognised as a monotypic species.

Habitat

This species is found in plantations of coconuts, rubber, and silk plants, as well as in mangroves, polyculture areas, and villages bordering secondary forest. It is known to utilise disturbed habitats, though its presence in primary and secondary forests remains a matter of dispute.
