White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher

Overview

The white-eyed slaty flycatcher (Melaenornis fischeri) is a small passerine bird belonging to the Old World flycatcher family, Muscicapidae. It is native to the highland regions of East and Central Africa.

Identification

• Native to the African highlands with an overall slaty appearance, as suggested by its common name.
• The subspecies M. f. toruensis, found in Rwanda and Burundi, is distinguished by an inconspicuous eye-ring.

Habitat

This species inhabits the highlands of Africa, ranging from Ethiopia and Kenya through to Rwanda, eastern Zaire, and Malawi. The subspecies M. f. toruensis is specifically distributed across Rwanda and Burundi.
