The black pitohui (Melanorectes nigrescens) is a species of bird in the family Pachycephalidae and the monotypic genus Melanorectes. It is also known by the alternate names black whistler and dusky pitohui.

Habitat

This species is found throughout the highlands of New Guinea, where its natural habitat consists of subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
