The chestnut-bellied monarch (Monarcha castaneiventris), also known as the chestnut-bellied monarch-flycatcher, is a species of bird in the family Monarchidae. It is endemic to the Solomon Islands.

Habitat

The chestnut-bellied monarch is endemic to the Solomon Islands. Its range includes Buka Island, Bougainville Island, the Shortland Islands, Fauro Island, Choiseul Island, Santa Isabel, the Florida Islands, Guadalcanal, Savo Island, Malaita, the Russell Islands, Makira, Ugi Island, Olu Malau Islands, Owaraha and Santa Catalina.

Did you know?

In 2009, a genetic change in some members of this species caused their colouration and songs to differ sufficiently that they did not recognise each other, leading to reproductive isolation and potentially the creation of a new species.
