Blue-capped Rock Thrush

Overview

The blue-capped rock thrush is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Males feature a blue head, chin, and throat, with blue and black upper parts and chestnut brown rump and underparts.
• A white patch on the wing is visible during flight.
• Females are brown with a brown and white underside.

Habitat

This bird breeds in dense forests in the Himalayas and winters in the lowlands of southern India, primarily in the Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats. In summer, it inhabits pine forests and hill slopes along the Himalayas from Pakistan to Arunachal Pradesh, while in winter it prefers dense canopied forests.
