Shining Flycatcher

Overview

The Myiagra alecto is a species of bird in the family Monarchidae. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

• Long-tailed and slender body with a fine bill.
• Male plumage is entirely glossy blue-black.
• Female plumage is rich chestnut above and white below, with a black crown and face; may appear dark above in poor light.
• Song is a clear whistled 'towhit-too-towhit.'

Habitat

Found in northern Australia, extending from the Moluccas to the Bismarck Archipelago. Natural habitats include subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical mangrove forest.
