The ant-eating chat, also known as the southern anteater-chat (Myrmecocichla formicivora), is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. It is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.

Identification

  • Males are almost entirely black in plumage.
  • Females are brown with a grey bill and grey legs.

Habitat

This bird is found in Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitats consist of subtropical or tropical dry shrubland and subtropical or tropical dry lowland grassland.
