Overview

The eastern nicator (Nicator gularis) is a species of songbird in the family Nicatoridae that is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List. It is found across a wide range of sub-Saharan African countries, including Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Habitat

Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, dry savanna, and subtropical or tropical moist shrubland. The species occurs in lowland areas stretching from around Mtunzini in northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, north through to east Africa, including inland areas along the Zambezi River.

Diet

It is an insectivore.

This species was formerly known as the yellow-spotted nicator, although that name now belongs solely to the central African western nicator.
